"One of the Most Memorable Sundays"!

By Pastor Ryan Marshall

People So Dearly Loved by God,

I’m still a little in shock, to be honest. Last Sunday was, in my humble opinion, one of the most memorable Sundays in the history of Highrock MetroWest’s existence.

There were SO many moments throughout the morning and even into the afternoon that leave me still reeling with gladness days later. Last Sunday we had vibrant musical worship, an inspiring story about deep spiritual friendships from Pastor Joe, an invitation to a truly remarkable Theology Lab series on American Evangelicalism, an engaging sermon on Jesus’ last supper and how it guides our church today, and a moving time of response to God’s word as we confessed and received God’s forgiveness and shared Communion. Lastly, we were sent out with a blessing from Pastor George. PHEW!

And then…the FOOD!

To see so many of you stick around for an hour to eat together was really amazing, and what a gift we received in that delicious meal of homemade Korean dishes. During that meal a small group also gathered in the Sanctuary to respond to the sermon and continue processing how God might be calling us to greater expressions of hospitality.

And everything we did last Sunday…we’re going to do AGAIN this Sunday! I am so eager to share that time with you again, and to welcome in more and more people to our time of connection with one another and with Jesus, the one who makes it all possible.

There are a few exciting things coming up that I want to quickly highlight:

  • Living Grace Mental Health Small Group: I am hosting this group (Zoom) for anyone who has experienced a mental health challenge or who would like to learn ways to better integrate their mental health and faith. We’ll use Scripture and science to take steps in our faith. Registration is required by September 25.
  • More Than A Meal//Edible Theology Bread Baking Workshop: Continue to explore the intersection of food and faith with Dr. Kendall Vanderslice. Join in person in Arlington (10/1) or MetroWest (10/2) or online. Both workshops are open to folks from all congregations. Registration is required.

There are so many ways to get involved at Highrock, please take a look at our Fall Launch for more information and ways to register, or reach out to a ministry leader or Pastor.

Blessings,

~Pastor Ryan

Nametags

Jeremy Lee and Averie Lee -- youth interns at MetroWest -- are working with Pastor George and others to form a Welcome Team and deploy nametags. Feedback from last Sunday: we love the nametags but the logistics of getting them aren't working. Soooo, this team will be improving on name tags in September. More to come.

Highrock's Fall Launch 2022!

Check out our freshly curated list of groups, gatherings, events, and courses designed to help you connect to God personally, God’s people, and God’s purposes.

This fall’s lineup offers a variety of topics to explore with others. We believe we can learn from each other’s experiences and learn about ourselves and God when we gather in community with a shared commitment to grow. Learn more here.

More Than a Meal Sermon Series with After-Worship Discussion Group

We began a new sermon series on September 11 called More Than A Meal. Meals matter - because often there’s so much more than a meal happening! And we see this throughout the story of God and God’s people. Regardless of whether the meal is extravagant or ordinary, what happens around these tables has a profound impact on how we understand God, ourselves, and our purpose in God’s world!

Every Sunday during this series (except Oct. 2 when we do Bake and Pray - see below) we will host SoulFood after worship with a meal from a different country or US region -- introduced by a person familiar with that area. And then, after SoulFood (around 11:30 or 11:40, we'll have a 45-minute discussion about the sermon hosted by a MetroWest pastor (sermon series study guide is here). We are not able to offer childcare during these discussions at this time, but we are looking for responsible childcare providers for future programs. Please refer those you may know to Pastor George

SEPT. 25 -- Theology Lab. American Evangelicalism: Family Conversations

The American evangelical movement has deeply impacted both the church and American society. But how should we relate to it today? This year, the Theology Lab online discussion group will explore this question in order to better understand our unique place in Christianity. Each session will feature live conversations between pairs of guest speakers who are influential in contemporary evangelical discussions. This online small group meets over Zoom on Sundays evenings from 7:30-9:00 pm ET on the following dates: Fall: September 25th, October 23rd, and November 13th. Find out more HERE!

OCT. 2 -- Edible Theology at Highrock MetroWest: Bake & Pray! (No SoulFood on this day).

This bread baking workshop invites participants in 5th grade and above to get their hands in the dough and connect with God through food! Coinciding with our sermon series More than a Meal, baker and writer Kendall Vanderslice will help facilitate teaching, kneading, and baking bread. There will be no SoulFood on this Sunday so we can participate in this event.

Everyone will leave with a loaf of bread ready to be baked!
