Highrock MetroWest Youth Writer Series: Part 5
Prompt: What is a recent God sighting in your life?
By Alexis Lee, a Highrock MetroWest High School Student
Earlier this summer, I had the opportunity to serve as a high school intern at the Middle School Summer Service Trip. This 5-day trip consisted of serving those in the Greater Boston area and a retreat afterward to help unwind and reflect on the experience.
We served in many places, including picking up trash in Malden, weeding community gardens, helping at a community grocery store, and packing bags for victims of sexual abuse. While we were serving, we learned about the difference we were making in the community. Many people passing us while picking up trash thanked us and the gardens we were tending helped provide fresh produce to the surrounding community. I saw God in these moments, showing me the importance of service to these communities and encouraging me to continue to serve in the future.
Throughout the whole trip everyone was patient, kind, and never complained. Whether picking up trash while sweating beneath our gloves or weeding a community garden in the baking sun, it was truly inspiring to see both students and leaders persevering to serve those in need. Through these people, God showed me the joy and blessing of serving others.
I will remember this trip forever. It was a delight to serve those in the Greater Boston area, and greatly inspirational to see God in the students and leaders, and see the difference we were making in the community.
The Youth Writers' series is organized and edited by Highrock Highschool Student Averie Lee, our summer intern.

What is Christianity all about? We believe that the Christian faith, at its heart, is a grand story that illuminates all of life. This course explores that story — the Christian Story — as it unfolds in Scripture. In this class, you’ll be introduced to an understanding of how the Bible, as a diverse collection of books and writings, tells the story of God’s faithfulness, how it speaks to questions of belonging and solidarity, and how this story brings about transformation in our lives and in the world. Learn more here.
