Highrock MetroWest Youth Writer Series: Part 4

Prompt: What is a recent God sighting in your life?

By Rachel Lee, a Highrock MetroWest High School Student

Last week, I went to a sleep away camp on Martha’s Vineyard, which is devoted to helping young people discover and strengthen their faith. During the week I was there, I saw God in the wonderful and supportive community of students, volunteers, and staff.

Every morning and evening, the whole camp would gather to worship and listen to talks and testimonies. It was truly inspiring to see how our faith brought us together to praise God in song, as one voice, though we had only met each other a day ago, and how open the staff was in their stories.

One thing you should know about me is that though usually I don’t show it, I am an introverted person. Social interactions tire me out very quickly. About halfway through the camp, I was getting worn out, and became pretty quick to complain. I saw God through my counselor, cabin mates, and friends, who were not only kind enough to put up with me, but also to let me know about my grumbling so that I could pay more attention to this flaw and work on it.

Finally, many of the counselors were volunteers, who gave up a week of their lives to help us strengthen our faith. They were open to us asking any question we could throw at them, about the bible, our lives, or even their lives. They inspire me to do more service in my community and perhaps one day even volunteer at the camp itself to help the next generation of young people to find themselves and discover their faith. I will never forget that week.

The Youth Writers' series is organized and edited by Highrock Highschool Student Averie Lee, our summer intern.

SEPT. 13, 7:45 PM -- The Christian Story

What is Christianity all about? We believe that the Christian faith, at its heart, is a grand story that illuminates all of life. This course explores that story — the Christian Story — as it unfolds in Scripture. In this class, you’ll be introduced to an understanding of how the Bible, as a diverse collection of books and writings, tells the story of God’s faithfulness, how it speaks to questions of belonging and solidarity, and how this story brings about transformation in our lives and in the world. Learn more here
