Highrock MetroWest Youth Writer Series: Part 3

Prompt: What is a recent God sighting in your life?

By Noelle Lee, a Highrock MetroWest Middle School Student

An example of a recent God sighting occurred in the beginning of summer. Every year, my extended family has gone on a summer vacation together. Some of the places we have traveled to and explored together are Texas, Florida, Colorado, Utah, Canada and California. This has been a tradition for many years by now, and personally, it is one of the highlights of my summer each year.

Two years ago when COVID-19 broke out, among the countless negative side effects of the pandemic, schools, activities, sports, and social gatherings were either canceled or were moved online. The pandemic also meant that it was not possible for our family to get together over the summer. Although we tried to compensate by FaceTiming or zooming on holidays, it did not feel the same as our gatherings in person. Of course, we were all disappointed, but we knew that safety was important.

This summer was different. Compared to last year, the amount of COVID cases dropped and we were able to safely get together. We drove down to our grandparents’ house in Delaware and saw all of our cousins. This trip felt extra memorable because it was the first time in two years we were all together without needing to social distance or constantly wear masks. We went to the beach, played sports, kayaked, and did many more fun activities together, creating more memories and strengthening our bonds as a family!

As I was thinking about this prompt trying to remember a recent God sighting, this year’s summer family trip came to mind. I believe that God was teaching me a lesson through this God sighting because I learned to not take special traditions like these for granted and to appreciate the gift of just being around family. God gives us so much and COVID took most of it away. This made me realize that we as God’s people sometimes need a reminder to be grateful for all of the precious blessings that God has provided for us.
