Prompt: What is a recent God sighting in your life?

My first experience with sleepaway camp was last year. I had been away for two nights before, but this was the first time I was going for a whole week. I never expected to get homesick, but it happened on the second day, and because of it, I couldn’t fully enjoy the camp. Since then, I have never been too fond of staying away from home for long periods of time.

This year was my brother’s first time at sleepaway camp. My brother and I have similar personalities, so I assumed that his experience would be similar to mine. I begged my mom not to send him, hoping to spare him from my miserable homesickness. She told me to just let him have a chance, and suggested that he might end up enjoying it. On the day of his departure, we said goodbye, and I mentally prayed “Please, have at least a little bit of fun.”

When he returned, I expected him to complain a little about his time at camp, but instead he smiled, talking about the fun things he got to do, like scuba diving. Surprised, I asked him if he would go again. With newfound maturity, he said yes, because he felt like he became more independent.

I see God here teaching me to not make assumptions about other people’s experiences. I have to remember that everyone has different reactions and feelings. I also see God helping Christian to use his uncomfortable situation towards something positive: growth. He could have easily been scared away from all of the new faces and difficult living style, but I think that God gave him the courage to conquer that challenge and grow as a person.

New Sermon Series and Study Resources -- Starting July 31

Centered: Moving Towards What Matters Most

Are you in or out? This is a question that has come to define many communities, especially spiritual ones. Do you believe the right things, say the right things, act the right way? If so, you can join. If not, you're out. But what if there were a different way? A way that puts life with Jesus at the center, and invites everyone to move towards that life together, regardless of difference? We want to be a community like that at Highrock. Beginning on July 31st, our Centered: Moving Towards What Matter Most sermon series will look at the six Affirmations that shape the center of our church and invite all of us to transformation and relationship. We hope you'll join!

Book Discussion Group: The Pietist Option

In parallel with the Centered sermon series, Pastor Meghan will be leading a six-week online small group discussing The Pietist Option by Christopher Gehrz and Mark Pattie, III. This book is a great introduction to our church’s historical and spiritual roots in the Pietist movement. Pietism lays the foundation for a way of being the church together in the face of a world that tends to offer only polarized options.

Intrigued? Join the discussion! Groups will meet on Tuesdays from August 2nd to September 6th from 7:30-9:00 pm on Zoom. Please register by July 26th so that we can plan well. Highrock MetroWest break-out sessions will be led by Pastor Ryan Marshall.

Ways to Be Involved!

Summer slows down at Highrock programmatically, but we are busy planning for the Fall. Please know that your pastors are available. The prayer group meets weekly as described below and many of the small groups continue as well. Please pray for your staff as they meet in August to combine plans for a meaningful Fall and Winter together exploring what it means to live out the extravagant love of Jesus at MetroWest.

Please send your prayer requests to our Prayer Team Leader Foluke Ajayi at mofoluwake09@gmail.com. The prayer team meets weekly by zoom on Wednesday evenings to pray for the needs of the church and in-person at HighrockMetrowest on a monthly basis (see below). Please consider praying with us.
