This Sunday, our Director of Worship Jason Cross will lead us in the worship song "Build My Life" (and other songs). In this section, Jason shares his thoughts about this song. It helps to know a little about our worship music prior to each Sunday. The music is chosen to correspond to the sermon theme when possible. This Sunday, Pastor Meghan's sermon asks the question Jason touches on below: "Ok. Easter happened. Now what?" Note the links to music videos below as well -- these are our worship songs for this Sunday.

Song Focus: "Build My Life"

by Jason Cross

Easter comes every year, and often, it almost seems like I can sense church-goers collectively asking "Now what?".  You may know the feeling...we've come off of a beautiful celebration of resurrection, cute outfits, family gatherings, and well-attended services, but on Monday we woke up to the same world––war-torn, divided, violent...far from the peace and goodwill we hoped for during Advent. So, really, what does Easter mean and how do we take Easter Sunday into "not-so-Easter Monday"?

The resurrection demonstrates the divinity of Jesus and His ultimate power over sin and death, but we may find ourselves much like the disciples on the Emmaus road (Luke 24:13-35) confused and feeling a bit let down by it all. These disciples had hoped that Jesus was going to restore political power and dignity to Israel and release them from the oppression of Roman occupation, but that's not at all what happened. So, in a similar way, they're asking the same question that you may be asking "now what?".

Jesus came not only to change THE world but to change YOUR world. The Kingdom that is "now, but not yet" is living in YOU (Luke 17:20-21).  Christians for centuries have, without much controversy, believed Jesus is coming again to set THE world aright. However, in the meantime, He is at work within you to put YOUR world right, and that happens when we allow the love of Jesus to work in us and through us.

So while our world may be as complex and confusing as ever, we can still allow the love of Jesus to do its work in our own world. Through Jesus' example, through the love He demonstrated on the cross, and through the power He demonstrated by His resurrection, we also have the love and power to build a life in OUR world that is worth living and worth sharing for the good of THE world.

Video to Build My Life. Lyrics to Build My Life:

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You, oh, we live for You

Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You, we live for You

Holy, there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

And I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
And I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
